The motorcycles are coming!

Indianpolis Metropolitan Police Motorcycle Drill Team

Crowd favorites–Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Motorcycle Drill Team–will be returning for the 2015 Grand Parade!

Originating in 1954, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Motorcycle Drill Team travels across the country performing in parades, at schools, children’s hospitals, nursing homes and other worthy events.

Their travel and expenses are funded by private money from individuals and businesses in Indianapolis and around the country.

The Drill Team has performed in six Presidential Inaugural Parades, 51 Blossomtime Parades in St. Joseph/ Benton Harbor Michigan, the Indianapolis 500 Parade, the King Kamehameha Parade, Aloha Festival, The Orange Bowl, Fiesta Bowl, Holiday Bowl, Kentucky Derby, the St. Petersburg Festival of States, over thirty-one American Legion National Convention Parades and even here at past Edison Festival of Light parades!

Led by Sgt. Bret McAtee, the current Drill Team consists of seventeen motorcycle officers. While performing, twelve motorcycles carry a letter that we can position to spell Indianapolis or Indiana.

Members of the Drill Team are IMPD motorcycle police officers who perform on the same motorcycles they use in their daily patrol.

For the past sixty-one years the Motorcycle Team has been one of the top goodwill ambassadors for the City of Indianapolis, the State of Indiana and law enforcement around the country.
